Project Summary:
The decommissioning of the sprawling Fort Ord military complex beside Seaside, California, near Monterey, was a huge project covering thousands of acres.  Extensive troop training took place at the site over the years and contamination of all types was present.  In addition, because the land is very valuable and because of environmental concerns, many governmental agencies were involved in this reclamation and development project.

Inspection, Testing, Analysis & Hazardous Materials Assessment:
As part of the redevelopment of the former Fort Ord Army Base, AMI Environmental was selected to conduct an environmental assessment of approximately 700 barracks and support facilities. The environmental assessment entailed sampling for asbestos, lead and miscellaneous hazardous materials prior to razing of the facilities.

AMI met the intense, 60-day deadline for completing all site assessments and reports.  The report writing was expedited by using a document management system that allowed AMI inspectors to immediately hand off their documentation, schematics, and photos to a team of report writers for seamless and rapid report generation.  All reports were thoroughly reviewed by the California Air Quality Control District and successfully passed its standards.

This survey also included inventorying  all hazardous waste that remained in the buildings.  AMI remained on site during the hazardous waste removal to provide industrial hygiene air-monitoring services and to conduct final visual assessments.
